binder-kote features
Binder-kote is a "surface preparation" product that must be used over dirty, dusty or chalky surfaces, over pinholed or blistered surfaces, or wherever adhesion may be questionable for any reason. Its sticky, resin-based formula "binds" dirt, dust and grit to the surface and forces air and moisture out of pinholes, pits and pockets often found on weathered roof surfaces. Binder-kote must also be used before coating over any porous surface like weathered concrete or wood. Galvanized metal, aluminum and bare metal surfaces require a special primer. (Retailers handling TKO Waterproof Coatings products should also carry these specialty primers.)
Binder-kote is NOT a substitute for proper surface preparation! However, if the roof surface, condition, or location prohibits or limits complete and thorough surface preparation, then Binder-kote is necessary to help Tuff-kote and Roof-kote stick to problem surfaces.
Failure to use Binder-kote under the above circumstances or where necessary due to surface conditions will lead to poor adhesion and failure of the coating job!
Binder-kote comes in quarts, gallons, 5 gallon pails and 55 gallon drums.

product benefits
Binder-kote, a low-solids, fast-drying resin-based surface preparation product, can be used:
- To bind dust, dirt, chalk, and loose particles to the surface and create a sticky, tacky surface that acts as an adhesive base for coating.
- To force air and moisture out of pinholes, pits and voids on surfaces.
- To minimize blistering caused by voids and pockets.
- To level porous surfaces and extend the square foot coverage of final coating.

product features
Color: Transparent amber color.
Texture/Finished Appearance: Binder-kote is transparent, so underlying surface is readily visible. Binder-kote sets up quickly, depending on porosity, application thickness and ambient weather conditions; Binder-kote will develop a "surface tack" in 10-30 minutes. It will cure in 6-8 hours and have a medium gloss.
Sizes: Binder-kote comes in quarts, gallon cans and 5-gallon pails. It is available in 55-gallon drums by special order.
Application: Use as a primer only. Not intended for use as final top coat.

application
Recommended for:
Binder-kote can be used over wood, masonry, slate, tile, previously painted & cementious surfaces. Do not use Binder-kote over soluble tar or asphalt surfaces or foam surfaces. Before coating ANY surface, always do a test patch to check for compatibility, adhesion and soundness.
Tools
Application may be by brush, roller, or airless spray.
Brush: Natural, nylon or polyester bristle
Roller: Smooth foam roller
Spray: Air or airless spray paint sprayer
Reduction: Do not reduce
Approximate Coverage Rates Per Gallon
Binder-kote will provide between 200-300 square feet per gallon coverage on a highly absorbent surface. On a dense, low-absorbency surface, Binder-kote will provide between 350-400 square feet per gallon coverage.
Coverage rates are given in good faith by TKO Waterproof Coatings and should be used as an estimate only. Actual coverage rates will vary due to the individual nature of each application. Therefore, TKO Waterproof Coatings is not responsible for any variance between estimated and actual coverage rates.
General Application Guidelines
Preparation: Clean the surface as well as possible. Remove all loose, flaking material. Sweep, brush, scrape or wash surface to remove as much dirt, dust and particles as practical. Remove mold if present. Surface must be dry prior to coating. Check existing surface for compatibility, do a test patch over questionable surfaces.
Application: Binder-kote should be used when dirt, dust or chalk is present, or when complete surface preparation is not possible, or will cause excessive dust and chalk to develop. Only a thin coat of Binder-kote is needed. Temperature range for application: 35 to 100° F for air, surface and material with a maximum humidity of 85%.
Drying time: When used with TKO's patching and coating products, Binder-kote should not be allowed to dry before over-coating. Binder-kote will form a tack in 10 to 30 minutes and must be coated over immediately for maximum adhesive benefits. If Binder-kote is allowed to dry over 4 to 6 hours, adhesive benefits are reduced, but Binder-kote will still greatly reduce chalky, dirty conditions, and penetration of porous surfaces remains unchanged.
Clean-up: Clean tools with mineral spirits. Dispose of containers properly.
